HOW YOU CAN HELP
Starboard Sponsorship Program
Why sponsor a trauma victim?
Your Support Can Change their Life.
When you sponsor a trauma victim, you’re helping to ensure they can grow and heal from their traumatic experiences. Too many women and
children right here in our area endure abuse & domestic violence, sexual assault, and child sexual abuse.
In fact, consider these statistics:
– 1 in 4 girls will be sexually assaulted by the time she is 18.
– 1 in 6 boys will be sexually assaulted by the time he is 18.
– 60% will never tell anyone (darknesstolight.org 2012).
– The younger the child victim, the more likely it is that the
perpetrator is a juvenile. Juveniles are the offenders in 43%
of assaults on children under age six. Of these offenders,
14% are under age 12.

2. How does the Sponsorship Work?
Therapy Resource Group is the first organization in the Upper Palmetto area to offer supporters the opportunity to sponsor an individual victim in their healing after a trauma. Our hope is that, with community support, no willing trauma victim go without “trauma-informed” care for their mental health needs.
When you sponsor a victim, you’re not only helping to support them as they grow and learn. Your support gets combined with the support of other sponsors – ultimately helping Therapy Resource Group ensure that all victims – regardless of whether they have a sponsor – are receiving the life-changing benefits of sponsorship.
When you choose to sponsor a victim, you can consider things like the age, gender and location of the victim. Once matched, you’ll receive a welcome kit that includes more information about your sponsorship. While we do not release any identifiable information about our clients,
you will be informed whether you are supporting a child, an adolescent, or an adult and in what County.
3. Where does my Sponsorship Support go?
The power of sponsorship creates growth and healing that ripples throughout the victim’s lives, their families’ lives and our entire communities. Your sponsorship provides counseling and advocacy services for clients by capable “trauma-informed” clinicians at Therapy Resource Group. Clients will receive amazing care in a beautiful setting with state of the art efficiencies.
4. What if there are Changes with Your Sponsored Victim?
We work in real communities, with real families, often in difficult situations. We provide a safe environment for our client’s to learn, grow and heal, but sometimes situations change. For example, a victim may leave our services because the family has moved to a new home in another community.
If your sponsored victim leaves our sponsorship program, your sponsorship will be moved to another person in need of support, so that you can continue helping clients in need. You’ll also be notified and have the opportunity to send a goodbye letter to your previously sponsored victim anonymously through our internal chain of communication.
